About the Academy

Westside Baptist Academy opened in 2007 as a ministry of Westside Baptist Church, serving families across Katy and west Houston.

Our purpose

Westside Baptist Academy is an extension of the Christian home and church in preparing young people for both time and eternity, so that these young people might be "conformed to the image of [Christ]."

Put more plainly: our main purpose is to help Christian parents train their children by providing quality academics and consistent character training in a supportive environment.

That sentence is worth reading slowly, because the first four words carry the weight of it. Scripture gives the responsibility for a child's training to parents. A school cannot take that responsibility, and we do not try to. What we can do is stand alongside a family, teach the same things at nine in the morning that are taught at home in the evening, and hold a consistent line so a child is not being formed by two competing sets of expectations.

What that looks like day to day

A student here has the same handful of teachers year over year. They know which student is coasting, which one is quietly struggling in math, and which one had a hard summer. Class sizes are small enough that a child cannot disappear in the back row, and small enough that a teacher can call home before a problem becomes a crisis rather than after.

Bible is a daily class, not a weekly assembly. Chapel is a normal part of the week. Character training is not a poster in the hallway; it is the same adults applying the same standard, every day, in every room.

Academics

Westside Baptist Academy is a college-preparatory school. Students who graduate here go on to four-year colleges, to trade programs, and to work, and the coursework is built so that the first of those is genuinely open to them. We use a classical-textbook, teacher-led approach rather than screens and self-paced software. Annual standardized achievement testing keeps our claims about academic quality measurable rather than promotional.

Our distinctives

  • Christ-centered — every subject taught from a biblical worldview

  • Rigorous curriculum — college-preparatory coursework across all grades
  • Strong standardized test performance — measured annually
  • A tight-knit community — families who know each other
  • Chapel programs — worship and preaching as part of the school week
  • Robust fine arts — choir, orchestra, ensembles and art
  • Qualified faculty — ministry-minded teachers

The church behind the school

The Academy is not an independent school renting space from a church. It is a ministry of Westside Baptist Church, under the authority of the same pastor, teaching the same doctrine, on the same campus.
