Dress Code

A student's appearance either compliments or detracts from their Christian testimony, and the way a student is dressed often affects their attitude toward what they are doing.

All pants, shirts, skirts, blouses and ties must match the dress code as found on the French Toast website, using only the stock numbers posted by the school.

The administration reserves the right to decide what is and is not acceptable. If you are unsure whether a garment is acceptable, check with the school office before it is worn.

General guidelines — all students

• Students remain in dress code until they are off campus, and may not change out of school clothes in the restroom.
• Appearance should be conservative, neat, and reflect refinement.
• No clothing promoting other elementary schools, high schools or colleges.
• Only the WBA logo may be displayed, in the top left area of shirts.
• All black, or a purposed gangster or mafia look, is not allowed.
• Clothing, backpacks, lunch boxes and notebooks carrying worldly music, movie or television characters are not acceptable. Traditional cartoon characters — Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck — are fine.
• Sunglasses, hats, hoodies, coats and jackets are not worn in classrooms or buildings.
• No clothing that appears excessively worn, including stylish fraying or holes.
• All clothing evenly dyed, one consistent color throughout.
• Rubber wristbands are not worn.
• Students do not write on their hands, arms, face or any other part of the body.

Students who violate the dress code may be sent home or kept in the office while a parent is contacted. Time out of class may be treated as an unexcused absence or tardy depending on how much class is missed, and it is the student's responsibility to find out what was covered.

Boys

Ties — students in 6th grade and above wear a tie and dress shirt on chapel days, until the end of the lunch hour. Ties are black, burgundy, grey, or a combination, and are not worn loose or hanging part way down.

Pants and shirts — from the French Toast website, Westside Baptist Academy section only. Belts if the pants have belt loops; suspenders may be worn if worn properly. Shirts tucked in, with a traditional collar. White, grey and burgundy only.

Shoes — sharp, classic, conservative dress shoes in black, brown/tan or cordova, of leather or leather-like material. No boots or ankle boots. Tennis shoes, or shoes with color designs resembling tennis shoes, are not acceptable in junior and senior high; tennis shoes may be worn in elementary. Argyle or solid, conservative, dark, matching socks. No-show socks are not acceptable. In high school, white socks are for P.E. only.

Hair — styles should be unmistakably masculine: neatly trimmed, tapered, and off the ears, eyebrows and collar, blending throughout the top, sides and back. Crew cuts tapered evenly over the whole head. Not acceptable: bowl cuts shaved at the sides, mohawks, shaved heads, braids, dreadlocks, sculpted designs, excessively curly or mop-type styles, and contrasting hair colors.

Jewelry — watches and class rings only. Ears may not be pierced. No makeup or nail color. No necklaces, chains or bracelets.

P.E. uniform — grades 6–12 wear the required P.E. shirt with loose solid black sweatpants without designs or logos, full shorts to the knee, or wind pants, plus athletic socks and tennis shoes. Elementary boys wear the required P.E. shirt with black shorts and tennis shoes.

Activity dress — jeans that are neat, evenly dyed, not torn and not tightly fitted. P.E. clothes are acceptable. Undershirts, muscle shirts and tank tops are not. Shirts tucked in. Tennis shoes must be clean and neat.

Girls

Skirts and dresses — full, modest, and to the bottom of the knee both sitting and standing. Slits front and back must be below the knee.

Blouses and shirts — all tops, including sweaters, loose fitting and modest; form-fitting tops do not meet the standard. From the French Toast website, Westside Baptist Academy section only. All shirts and blouses meet the "2 inch rule" of the collarbone. No zipper tops. Tops worn over skirts should not be excessively long, or they need tucking in. All blouses and shirts have sleeves. Polos are not layered over long-sleeve shirts. White, grey and burgundy only.

Underclothing — undergarments should not be visible through outer clothing. If they are visible through a blouse or dress, a camisole or half-slip is required.

Shoes — tennis shoes may be worn in elementary, but not in junior and senior high, including shoes with color designs resembling them. Flip-flops and flip-flop-type shoes are not acceptable at any grade; dressy sandals with a back strap are allowed for all female students. Junior and senior high wear a classic, conservative dress shoe of leather or leather-like material — no boots or ankle boots at any grade. Heels no more than two inches. Non-matching socks and shoelaces are not allowed.

Hair — unmistakably feminine and neatly groomed. Drastic changes to hair color are not acceptable.

Makeup — elementary girls do not wear facial makeup. Junior and senior high girls may wear makeup in moderation, in neutral colors matching skin tone.

Nails — polish in natural colors (pink, white or red), all nails the same color. Excessively bright, dark or unnatural colors are not permitted. Conservative decals and glittery polish are allowed. Nails no longer than a quarter inch past the fingertip.

Jewelry — one single matching pair of earrings, worn in both ears. For safety, no long or large dangling earrings, and earrings are removed and studs taped over for P.E. and athletic events. No ankle bracelets or bands, and no toe rings. No more than one necklace, one bracelet and one ring.

Leggings — not allowed. Knee-high socks may be worn. Neutral tone panty hose and tights are allowed, with no designs or patterns.

P.E. uniform — school-approved P.E. culottes, school P.E. shirt, athletic socks and tennis shoes. Culottes are checked on the first day of school.

Activity dress — loose-fitting jean skirts or culottes to the bottom of the knee when sitting. P.E. shirts may be worn, as may P.E.-style shorts that are full, feminine and modest. Pants and blue jeans are not acceptable.

For parents and visitors

We ask that parents abide by the dress code when outside their cars on campus, and that loud music not be played in cars on campus. Former students and graduates attending ball games or visiting campus are asked to honor the dress code and standard of conduct.
