Student Life

Chapel, fine arts, athletics and the ordinary rhythm of a small school where everyone is known.

Chapel

Chapel is a regular part of the school week — singing, Scripture and preaching, with the whole school together. Students in 6th grade and above wear a tie and dress shirt on chapel days, and every student brings a Bible.

Fine arts

Fine arts is treated as a vital part of preparing a well-rounded student — developing talents and preparing students for a broader future serving the Lord. It is not an after-school extra.

  • Senior High Ensemble
  • Art
  • Speech
  • Private instrumental lessons

Through the year students take part in dramatic, choral and instrumental programs. Attendance and faithful participation are required until a program is completed, and participation is a major part of the music grade. Please let your pastor and church leaders know about these commitments, and mark the dates clearly so nothing conflicts.

All students are required to participate in the In-School Fine Arts Competition. Students in K5 through 5th grade memorize an approved poem or reading. Students in 6th through 12th grade participate in and attend the regional MSAACS competition, held March 4–5 in Weatherford, Texas.

Electives such as choir, art and ensemble sometimes carry additional fees.

Athletics and physical education

The Warriors field flag football, with registration and physical evaluation forms published each season. Participation in athletics and school trips requires a good behavior record, appropriate academic standing, and a current financial account. A student who is absent or suspended for the day may not participate in any school activity that day.

In physical education, students are expected to participate unless excused by a doctor's note, and to dress out in the complete uniform. The cost of one required P.E. shirt is included in the gym fee; additional shirts are purchased at the start of the year, and culottes for girls are purchased through the school.

During the school day

Students bring their own lunches. If a student arrives without one, the school provides a lunch and charges it to the family account. Students may buy soda, juice, candy, cookies and chips at the snack shop. Parents are welcome to eat lunch with their child and may bring outside food when they do.

Cakes or cupcakes may be brought for the whole class to share at lunchtime — check with the teacher in advance. Birthday party invitations are not distributed at school unless the entire class, or grade in junior and senior high, is invited.

Trips

Deportment on trips should bring honor to the Lord and to the school. Students remain with the group, treat vehicles with respect, stay seated while the vehicle is moving, and sit in separate seats by sex. Students travel to and from an activity in the same vehicle unless a parent is present or another approved adult drives them, and the person in charge is notified either way.

Elementary and pre-school children may not ride to ball games with older brothers and sisters travelling with the school group.

Standards

Dress code. Students wear uniforms, ordered from the French Toast website using the stock numbers posted by the school. Shirts are white, grey or burgundy. Full dress code →

Conduct. Attendance at the Academy is a privilege and not a right, and students are asked to hold a standard of conduct both on and off campus. Standard of conduct →

Summer reading. The Academy runs a summer reading program with assigned and recommended titles by grade level. Lists go home with the final report card.

Come see the Academy

The best way to understand Westside Baptist Academy is to walk the halls while school is in session. Tours take about an hour.
